A master plan for the climate crisis by world’s leading scientists
A pathway to return within the safe planetary boundaries for climate
Scientifically based solutions for a secure future

1° C
The current international global goal of limiting warming to 1.5°C was developed as a compromise to “significantly reduce” risks. However, multiple scientific assessments show that a rise to 1.5°C will trigger serious damages and likely cross some tipping points.
The scientific teams of the Holocene Project aim for a safe global future within planetary boundaries for climate at 1°C.

Science at the highest level
Most of the international scientific teams of the Holocene Project are led by world’s leading researchers within the top 2% in the Stanford/Elsevier scientist list.

More than 150 technologies for a clean future

800 regions - One common goal
Using the developed energy models, just pathways will be developed in a study for all regions of the world taking into account socio-economic characteristics of each region.

Science that brings about change

Your Donations Impact
Your donation enables the Holocene Project to aim for a safe global future within planetary boundaries for climate at 1° C through the development of the open-source unprecedented energy transitions models, identification of negative emission solutions and freely accessible data. Based on socioeconomic analysis and by boosting collaboration with the scientific community and politicians, and cooperating with institutions in each region, the project will provide guidance for fine-tuning these models and implementing a just transition in all regions of the world.

Your donation to the Holocene Project
* For donations of €300 or more, the DSZ – International Giving Foundation will issue a German donation receipt in accordance with the official template. To do this, we require the donor’s address details, which can be provided either by email or directly in the transfer reference. For donations under €300, a simplified donation receipt in the form of a bank payment slip or account statement is sufficient in accordance with § 50 (2) No. 2 EStDV (German Income Tax Implementation Regulation).

More than 150 technologies for a clean future
The models of the Holocene Project unprecedentedly integrate over 150 technologies, such as solar modules, wind turbines, power plants of different types or heat pumps, among many others. They utilise additionally a wide range of negative emission technologies (NETs), such as afforestation, soil sequestration, enhanced weathering, direct air capture of CO₂ and marine aquaculture to achieve stabilizing global warming at 1.0 °C. The models, which compromises energy production and consumption of 800 regions worldwide, also include the current and potential industries in all the regions and sector coupling potentials. Integrated assessment models, IAMs will further fine tune the calculations with the Holocene Project models in order to assure the return to the transgressed planetary boundaries.

Comprehensive data - Open to all
The Holocene Project provides two energy open sources models and freely accessible data. Just as open‑source innovations have reshaped technology and connected humanity in unprecedented ways, our models empower scientists and experts globally to collaborate directly on solutions to the climate crisis. This makes it possible to refine the models in line with local conditions.
